"It's never too late ..." Yesterday is gone and cannot be changed - tomorrow is full of opportunities. |

August 2011 Business (life) Improvement Tip This is the tenth in a new series of monthly business improvement tips - the next will be published in September 2011 - if you are not currently on our mailing list then click <here>. Around sixty previous improvement tips plus other appropriate or useful information are being added to an e-book which will soon be available to download - we will let you know when it becomes available. It's never too late ... It's never too late ... ú to be who you might have been ú to be what you might have been ú to see what you might have seen ú to do what you might have done ú to go where you might have gone ú to have what you might have had ú to learn what you might have learnt ú to know what you might have known ú to feel what you might have felt ú to meet who you might have met It's never too late ... ú to dream your dreams, to follow your dreams, to realise your dreams ú to change yourself, to change your life, to change your future ú to achieve your hopes, dreams desires, aspirations and long term goals ú to realise your potential, to achieve greatness, to achieve success ú to have the life and lifestyle you have always wanted ú to make "it" happen, to really make a difference ú to be fulfilled, to be content, to be happy ú to help others I spend much time talking to people I meet about themselves, their lives, their businesses and their futures - because that's what I do. All too often they tell me about lost opportunities, about what they didn't do, about what they could have done, about what they should have done ... if only they had done ... if only they could have had ... if only they had realised at the time ... if only ... if only. Ok - if like me you are in your sixties then I might be able to understand it, although have to say that I totally changed my own life in my 58th year. However, I recently talked to several people in their twenties, thirties and forties who moaned about their lives and told me "...if only...", "... if only ..." So what ... you didn't have the education, you didn't get the qualifications, you didn't get the opportunities, you didn't get the lucky breaks, you lived in the wrong part of town, your parents were poor, you never had the time, you were always too busy, you got involved with the "wrong crowd", you believed you were a rebel and couldn't be bothered learning when you were younger, "they" didn't understand you, "they" abused you, "they" bullied you, "they" ignored you, "they" were against you, "they" didn't help you, "they" didn't give you, "they" didn't encourage you ... so what - that's yesterday, that's all history. Yesterday has gone and cannot be changed no matter how hard you may try. Tomorrow is unwritten, tomorrow is waiting for you, tomorrow is full of hope, full of opportunities, full of potential, full of everything you ever wanted ... and you can have it if you consciously choose to do something about it right now, this second, this moment in your life ... however, if you find excuses or reasons not to change right now, this second, this moment in your life, and you leave it until next week, next month, next year, then it is unlikely to happen because you will find yet more reasons or excuses not to start ... such as "I'm too busy", "I haven't got the time", "I haven't got the money", "I can't be bothered right now", "I'll do it next year", "I've got enough problems right now", and the best and most incredible excuse of all "other things are more important". Ask yourself - what is more important to you than your own future and the future of those that you care about, those that are special to you, those that you love, those that rely on you? It may seem to be a cliche, but I can say from personal experience that it is true, as you get older time gets shorter and there is less time to do what you want to do, what you need to do. There is a saying - "inside every old person there is a young person wondering what happened". I don't know where it originated but I do know several people in their forties and fifties who have accepted it and, as they see it, simply "bowed to the inevitable". After a lot of badgering by me some of them are now doing something about it. Unfortunately many haven't and are unlikely to do so. I can tell you stories of people who previously felt that they were stuck in a rut who have totally changed their lives for the better. I can also tell you stories of people who seem to be happy in a rut - what is a rut? - it is an endless grave, and people who are happy in a rut may soon find that the rut becomes a grave. So what are you going to do about gaining a better business, a better lifestyle, a better life and a better future? Which statement are you going to make today ... ? ú I'm going to completely ignore what you have written - it's all nonsense anyway. ú I'm going to do nothing - there is absolutely nothing wrong with either my current or future life. ú I'm going to think about it for a few hours, perhaps a few days - then I'll probably do nothing. ú I really would like a better business, a better lifestyle, a better life and a better future - but I'll probably do something about it later. ú I definitely want a better business, a better lifestyle, a better life and a better future and I am ready and willing to do something about it right now. Whichever statement you choose to make please bear in mind that many of the people who in the past told me "it's all nonsense", "I'm alright as I am", "there is nothing wrong with my business", "I don't see any reason to change either me or my business" or "I don't need any help", no longer have a business. Your life and your business are like trees - they are growing or dying - there is nothing in between. So ... what are you going to do about gaining a better lifestyle, a better life and a better future? ... when are you going to start making it happen? "It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory." - W. Edwards Deming "Give me the serenity to accept the people that I cannot change, the courage to change the one that I can, and the wisdom to know that I am the one." - anon. "I failed in some subjects in exam, but my friend passed in all. Now he is an engineer in Microsoft and I am the owner of Microsoft." - Bill Gates It's never too late to change.
